power- In kid nation there are 40 kids trying to turn an old pioneer town that had been trashed into a better place in 40 days. There are no adults to help with anything. There are 4 children that are in charge to keep the other children doing their jobs. They have control over the children working in the town. They are the group of children that hold a meeting every week. They give a gold star worth 20,000 dollars to the kid who works the hardest at every meeting.
symbol- The gold star is a symbol that indicates who works the hardest at the end of each week. Everyone has a chance to win the gold star, they just have to prove that they are the hardest worker. The gold star is worth twenty thousand dollars and it shows who is capable of the most work. Some kids may be older than the others, but that doesn't mean that they are going to get the gold star. Anyone can get it whether you are the youngest or the oldest. The gold star proves who is really the strongest kid there.
manifest function- Giving the gold star to someone every week is a manifest function because they are trying to do something nice to the hardest worker. They are giving the hardest worker 20,000 dollars for coming to the city to help fix it into a nicer place. Not everyone will get a gold star, but the people who stand out to the council that are doing the best job will. Only one person will get a gold star every week.
